Hard-shell airships have a skeletal structure, unlike soft-shell airships, which use a balloon-like design. The most famous example of a hard-shell airship is the Zeppelin. The first model (LZ1) took flight in 1900, the Graf Zeppelin LZ127 circumnavigated the globe, and the Hindenburg LZ129 was destroyed in a massive fire.
The internal structure has been recreated using stainless steel photo-etched parts. During the design process, we visited Friedrichshafen, the birthplace of Zeppelins, and the two Zeppelin museums in Frankfurt, where we received access to relevant materials.
